National Gallery of Ireland to celebrate George Bernard Shaw’s legacy.

George Bernard Shaw made a bequest to the National Gallery of Ireland on his death in 1950 that the Gallery should have one third of his posthumous royalties. The size of this gift was revealed by the NGI, €12.5 million over the seven decades since George Bernard Shaw died. The lifetime of this gift is drawing to a close as it only lasts as long as the witers copyright, seventy years after their death.

A number of works have been purchased by the Gallery including works by Rideric O’Conor, Walter Osborne and Sir John Lavery.
