Wilds of Donegal

The Wilds of Donegal in Spring. This evocative painting of a Donegal scene near Dungloe is full of small detail. The two figures walking on the road bordered by stone walls. The small whitewashed cottages with smoke curling from the chimneys. The mountain towering over the whole scene is commanding. The light yellow and greens in the foreground of the painting emphasize the size and depth of the mountain that frames the scene.

James Humbert Craig was painting one hundred years ago and the scene near Dungloe does bear traces of another century. It is the Irish landscape that doesn’t change and the character of the Irish people. This card is full of Irish heritage and tradition a place for traditional music and turf fires. In the Wilds of Donegal the welcome is always mighty!
