Jeremiah Mulcahy
Mulcahy was painting between 1804 and 1899, born in Limerick he made his living from painting and opened a School for painting in Limerick. He exhibited in the Royal Hibernian Academy and became an associate, a prestigious accolade for an Irish artist. View from Killiney was painted in the 1860s, a masterpiece of its time.
The landscape in this painting may still be familiar today but you can see certain styles emerging in the painting. The mountains and sky in the background are both romantic and stylized. Whilst the trees in the foreground also follow a certain pattern that was in vogue at the time.
