Description

Dublin Quays ~ Charles Ernest Cundall.

Dublin Quays by Charles Ernest Cundall in this painting you can see the iconic shape of the Ha’penny Bridge. Cundall paints pedestrians and horse-drawn carriages on the road running along the Dublin Quays.

The quays on the River Liffey have always been a busy spot and the life that Cundall has given this painting is very reminiscent of the scene today. The only thing that marks the difference is the horses instead of the cars and buses.

An Irish greeting card suitable for all occasions.

Charles Ernest Cundall

Cundall born in Lancashire England began his artistic career as a pottery designer and stained glass artist. After attending the Slade School of Art he travelled widely in Europe and had his first solo art exhibition.

The pale colour palette used in this painting lends an air of light and atmosphere to the scene. There is a relaxed naturalness in the painting so that the viewer can nearly imagine themselves as part of the picture. The seagulls flying low close to the River Liffey scavenging for food some things never change.
